We have become aware of a new text scam happening in the greater Dubuque area. The Dubuque police department received notice that the complainant received a text message that appeared to come from their bank in Dubuque. The text prompted them to reply to confirm identification information (or something similar). At this time police are unsure how wide-spread this will become, but wanted to get the warning out early.

As always, financial institutions generally don't correspond via text - especially unsolicited. Potential victims should not respond to the text and can also contact their financial institution to verify the contact is not legit.

Preventative measures remain the same with this, and all other types of scams: always take time to verify the source and never provide money, account information and/or personal information to anyone unless you are absolutely positive the request is legitimate. Premier Bank will never ask for personal information via text message. Contact your financial institution and/or local law enforcement if you believe you are being scammed or would like assistance in verifying the authenticity of the inquiry.
